Video footage has captured the moment a stolen car was removed from a Welsh mountain two years after it was abandoned. Its smashed up remains were found in March 2020 by a passer-by on his morning run off the A4061 Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road, Treorchy. Ever since, it has been laying in a deep ditch on the side of Bwlch Mountain. But now in May 2022, More than two years since it was first discovered, the car has finally been extracted.
Video footage shows teams from South Wales Police and Rhondda Cynon Taf council removing the vehicle. The car can be seen gradually being pulled up the steep mountain as extensive damage is exposed. Images captured at the time show the family car with its engine block and most of the front of the vehicle missing. The person who found the car, Carl Rees, said it was "impacted all round" and the bumpers and other bits of debris were discovered up to 60 yards away.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen from the Cwmavon area, but after a search of the area the person who drove it onto the mountain could not be located. Locals became concerned about the origin of the car and wondered when it would be removed.
A farmer who owns part of Bwlch Mountain, Katie Davies, confirmed the car had crashed on her land but "bounced" onto an adjoining farm. Speaking at the time, she called it an "eyesore" which contributed the the issue of flytipping on the land.
