People are being invited to don their fanciest frocks and most striking suits for a Victorian-themed Christmas event in Swansea this Saturday. Shops along Woodfield Street in Morriston are set to be abuzz with festive cheer as business owners decorate their window displays in Victorian style while craft stalls, children's entertainers, music performances, and heritage exhibitions will be held all around the area. There will also be a visit from Santa Claus at his special Santa's Grotto.
The special Heritage Christmas event, also known as the Morriston Victorian day, first took place last year and was so successful that it's happening again on November 26. It's been organised by Swansea Council and aims to encourage more people to shop locally and support local independent businesses while also reminding people of the Victorian landmark the Morriston Tabernacle in the centre of the community. For more stories about Morriston go here.
The activities and entertainment will run from 10am to 3pm in Woodfield Street and other nearby streets and visitors are encouraged to dress up in a Victorian costume for the day though this is not compulsory. A wide range of community groups and local organisations are set to get involved in the fun too with groups from Morriston Primary School, 1st Morriston Scout Troop (also known as the 20th Swansea Troop), Morriston Ladies Choir, Tabernacle Morriston Choir, Morriston Camera Club, Glantawe Lions and St David's Church all confirmed for the Heritage Christmas event.

The 20th Swansea (1st Morriston) Scout Group are due to be toasting marshmallows and have a stall selling wooden Christmas decorations they've made. Morriston Ladies Choir are set to lead carol singing that the public can join in the Tabernacle. Tabernacle Morriston Choir will join the carol singing and perform on Woodfield Street. Morriston Camera Club plan an exhibition of their work in Tabernacle. Glantawe Lions plan to welcome Santa to the Tabernacle grotto and will judge a Victorian shop window-dressing competition. There will be stalls in the grounds of St David’s Church."
The event will run between 10am and 3pm. Any community groups wishing to be involved can contact Nathan James by emailing nathan.james@swansea.gov.uk.
