Former Labor powerbroker and minister Adem Somyurek has resigned from the Victorian parliament after two decades.
The MP for the South-Eastern Metropolitan Region was sacked from cabinet in mid 2020 after allegations he was a key figure involved in branch stacking.
On Twitter, Mr Somyurek said he was resigning to spend more time with his family, start a new chapter, and because he was "sick of sharing a workplace with Dan [Andrews]".
He continued to sit as an independent after departing from the Labor Party, and has publicly criticised Premier Daniel Andrews and his former party on multiple occasions.
Mr Somyurek first entered parliament in 2002 and served in multiple portfolios as a Labor minister, including small business, trade and local government.
An email issued by Legislative Council president Nazih Elasmar said Mr Somyurek resigned on Thursday, with his resignation "effective immediately".
Mr Somyurek was not contesting his position as an MP at the Victorian state election, which is taking place on Saturday, November 26.
The ABC has contacted Mr Somyurek for comment.
