Victoria Derbyshire says young people are 'grateful' she uses TikTok to report on war

Victoria Derbyshire has explained how TikTok has enabled her to report on recent world events in a 'calm' manner.

The broadcaster, 53, has credited the video-sharing app for allowing her to update people on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine in a 'non-patronising' and informative way.

Appearing on The One Show on Monday night, the former I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star revealed all about her reporting techniques and what works well when it comes to delivering horrific news.

"So I started doing videos on TikTok maybe three or four months ago, just three bits of news each day, in really clear, straight-forward simple language," Victoria explained to presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

"Not patronising in any way - just explaining stuff that sometimes we assume everybody knows and they don't necessarily."

The BBC star went on to explain how and why her content seems to appeal to a younger audience.

"I've got two teenage sons myself, so I know there's an appetite for information," the mum-of-two continued on Monday night.

"Then obviously, this conflict started in Ukraine and the views of the videos just went up and up and up, and I think maybe because people are looking for trusted sources - again, clear information."

The broadcaster went on to reveal she purposely doesn't include any graphic imaginary in her TikTok reports.

"I don't put any visuals up," she stated during her chat on The One Show.

"There are no pictures of explosions or you know, bombing or anything like that, and I've had so much feedback from young people saying: 'I've never lived through a war before and I'm really anxious and actually, I'm grateful that you're just saying this in a really calm, clear way with no imagery'."

Recent comments on Victoria's latest TikTok updates include feedback like "Thank you Victoria, trusting you to tell us the truth" and "you teach me more than my school does".

Elsewhere on The One Show on Monday night, comedian Alan Carr joined presenters Alex and Jermaine for a chat on the sofa.

After catching up with the funny stand-up, Camila Cabello joined the trio via video link from her home in America.

During her chat with the studio, the Work From Home accidentally flashed a nipple to unsuspecting viewers watching at home - with presenter Alex going on to apologise for slip up.

"Sorry one again for Camila's wardrobe malfunction," she told The One Show viewers towards the end of the show.

"Happens to the best of us. Bless her."

Fans watching at home weren't offended though, with one taking to Twitter to say: "Proper felt for Camilo Cabelo on @TheOneShowShow but handled it like an absolute boss. Remember people, it’s just a nipple - we all got them [winky face emoji]."
