Spurs star Victor Wembanyama couldn’t help his team avoid a 137—135 loss to the Hawks on Thursday night, but he still managed to give the fans at AT&T Center an experience that was well worth their money.
Wembanyama, who was questionable to play in the game against Atlanta due to tightness in his right hip, looked unbothered by the hip issue and finished the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. In one show-stopping play, the 7’4” rookie proved why he’s becoming the ultimate do-it-all star.
Early in the first quarter, Wembanyama snagged a defensive rebound on Clint Capela’s missed shot in the paint. He then dribbled all the way down the court and easily blew past his defender (who happened to be Capela) to score a lay-up — and draw a foul for the and-one. He also mixed in a deft behind-the-cack dribble and hesitation move on his way to the hoop.

Despite Wembanyama’s impressive effort, the Spurs lost their 13th consecutive game and fell to 3—15.
San Antonio will play the Pelicans in New Orleans at 8 p.m. ET on Friday. Wembanyama has been ruled out of Friday’s due to hip tightness.
