Victor Osimhen reveals plan to emulate Chelsea legend amid Todd Boehly summer transfer plan

Victor Osimhen looks poised to be at the centre of an almighty transfer battle this summer as several European powerhouses look to claim the star striker's signature. Chelsea have been keen to place themselves at the front of the expensively-assembled queue, as the Napoli forward has been identified as being the man to solve the Blues' goal scoring issues.

Chelsea have struggled to break their apparent 'striker curse' in recent seasons, after expensive additions Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata and Fernando Torres all failed to make the grade. Having found the back of the net on 25 separate occasions from 28 games in domestic and Champions League action, Osimhen's displays have understandably alerted the interest of Europe's heavyweights.

While competition will be fierce, Todd Boehly and co. will be hoping they have an advantage in the form of a former Blues legend. Having previously revealed his childhood idol was Didier Drogba, the Nigeria international has now admitted he hopes to emulate the ex-Chelsea striker on the global stage.

Asked whether he saw himself as the Didier Drogba, who represented Ivory Coast for more than a decade, of Nigerian football, Osimhen told TV broadcaster PSL: "I have huge belief that I have even more to give than I am doing now, and I think it's a process so I'm really working so hard towards this and to be able to do what Didier Drogba has done for his country and do the same for the Super Eagles.

"And I'm really working so hard, we have a great squad, I think with the help of my teammates I can really be at that level." The 24-year-old added he is yet to meet his inspiration, but is looking forward to the day he is able to do so.

"Yeah of course, I'm looking forward to meeting him one day, I haven't met him yet," he added. Osimhen previously spoke about how he idolised Drogba, who became one of the most revered African strikers in history, growing up.

"My childhood idol is Didier Drogba," he told NFF TV. "When I scored against Chelsea. The feeling because I know a lot of my friends that are Chelsea fans and before the game they messaged that they don't care if Chelsea beat Lille 5-1 or 5-2 as long as I score.

"They wanted me to actualise my dream and that’s one of the best moments in my career."
