Victor Osimhen puts ball in Napoli's court amid Man Utd transfer interest

Victor Osimhen has told Napoli "it is for the club to decide" his future amid interest from several clubs, including Manchester United.

Osimhen, 24, has scored 18 goals in 19 Serie A appearances this season to help Napoli establish a 15-point lead at the top of the table. Luciano Spalletti's side are set to lift its first Serie A title in 33 years - when Diego Maradona played for them - later this term.

Osimhen's superb record has encouraged the likes of United and Chelsea to take a closer look at him. Both Premier League clubs are in need of a new striker, but the Nigeria international is not interested in discussing his future during a Serie A title race.

Osimhen is happy for the club to decide his future at the end of the season. He has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, which means this coming summer could be the perfect time for Napoli to cash in. It also means they are not under pressure to sell.

The prolific striker discussed his future during a recent interview with ESPN. He said: "When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues. And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.

"But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies. At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide."

It is easy to see why Osimhen is enjoying himself in Naples. He is poised to win the Serie A Golden Boot - as well as the title - thanks to his outstanding tally. His closer challenger for the Golden Boot is Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, who has scored 13 league goals.

Napoli have won seven consecutive Serie A games - a run that includes a 5-1 victory against Juventus. They've dropped just five league points all season.

Napoli also have a good chance of winning the Champions League. They finished top of their group after a 4-1 home win against Liverpool and have a favourable last-16 tie against Eintracht Frankfurt. The first leg takes place in Germany on Tuesday night.

United's need for a new striker became obvious when Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual consent last November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. The Portugal international, 38, criticised the club, manager Erik ten Hag and others

Ten Hag replaced Ronaldo with Wout Weghorst in January, but only on a short-term basis. The Netherlands international, 30, failed to score during his first six Premier League games for the Red Devils and it seems unlikely that his loan deal will be made permanent.

Even if that does happen, United will need to sign a prolific forward. Osimhen may fit the bill, but other clubs will be after his signature. Chelsea, who have scored just six Premier League goals since the World Cup in Qatar, also need a new striker.
