Victor Osimhen has told Chelsea manager Graham Potter what he wants to hear

Chelsea's long-desired need for a new number nine at Stamford Bridge continues to be an issue. Despite spending over £600 million on new signings in the last two transfer windows, the position remains a problem.

Goals have been one of many stumbling blocks faced by Graham Potter since replacing Thomas Tuchel. The Blues have scored the fewest amount of goals in the Premier League's top 11 (29 goals) and have only scored more than two goals on just three occasions this season - twice against AC Milan.

Kai Havertz's role within Chelsea's set-up means they often play without an out-and-out number nine to take up positions inside the penalty box and whose primary responsibility is to score goals. Joao Felix's loan move from Atletico Madrid has provided an alternative option in the final third but he has frequently played as an inside forward.

The position is one that Boehly and Behdad Eghbali desperately need to fill ahead of the 2023/24 season. While there is the prospect of welcoming Romelu Lukaku back to the side from his loan spell from Inter, another Serie A striker has been named as a potential solution.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen is one of Europe's best goalscorers and has caught the attention of many clubs with his exceptional record in front of goal. The Nigeria international has scored 25 goals in 29 games for Luciano Spalletti's side - including a whopping 12 in his last 11 appearances.

Gli Azzurri are now 19 points clear at the top of the Serie A table with 11 games left to play, meaning they are on course to win their first Scudetto in 33 years. They also remain in the Champions League and are favourites among some to reach June's final after being handed a favourable route to Istanbul.

Osimhen's performances have seen him be linked with a number of clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. Chelsea have been credited with a strong interest in a player compared to ex-Blues striker Didier Drogba while Manchester United have identified the Super Eagles star as an alternative to Harry Kane.

Napoli aren't expected to be faced with much pressure to sell Osimhen in the summer due to the impressive heights reached this season. In fact, the 24-year-old has regularly insisted he is happy in Naples.

However, he has recently gone on record to admit it his "dream" to play in the Premier League. Speaking earlier this month, Osimhen said: "I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me. A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

"I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday but, like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."

They will be music to the ears of Boehly and Potter, with the player eager to test himself in the top flight and clearly open to a move.
