Victor Lindelof responds to Lisandro Martinez transfer talks as Man Utd spot under threat

Victor Lindelof is not concerned by Manchester United 's move for Lisandro Martinez, which could hamper his own ambitions at Old Trafford.

The Ajax centre-half is on Erik ten Hag's radar with the Dutchman keen to reunite with a player who he worked with previously in Amsterdam. United have lodged a bid of over £30m for the Argentine, who is also of interest to Arsenal and would like to move to the Premier League.

Ten Hag has been able to assess his squad in recent weeks and is still pursuing defensive recruits having previously eyed Jurrien Timber - Martinez's Ajax teammate. Lindelof is preparing for his sixth season in Manchester having been signed by Jose Mourinho back in 2017.

United already have Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane on their books - and the two have been seen as the preferred pairing. It leaves Lindelof with question marks over his future, but he is not concerned by his current situation. He said: "I’m not a nervous person, I’m quite calm. I know what I can do on the pitch, I’ve been working very hard and that’s all I can focus on really."

Lindelof made 35 appearances last term and had been Maguire's regular partner under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before Varane was signed from Real Madrid. United did concede a concerning amount of goals last term and, in an effort to avoid a repeat, Ten Hag is looking to bolster his options.

That said, in his first press conference, the Dutch boss did speak of his desire to get the most out of the current group. He said: "I am looking forward to working with these players. The season before, this squad was second in the league, so there is huge potential. I think if we improve, if we can work with them, I think we can get out more than what is now the result from this season."

United have struggled in the market, which is underlined by their pursuit of Martinez. Ajax are determined to keep hold of the defender and his teammate Antony, who has also been linked with a switch to Manchester. Tyrell Malacia is the only new arrival so far whilst Christian Eriksen is reportedly close to a move.

Frenkie De Jong has been a key target but United's efforts to sign him have, so far, been unsuccessful and the player appears determined to stay at Barcelona. The club's president Joan Laporta has maintained that the midfielder is not for sale.
