Victor Lindelof puts pressure on Erik ten Hag and hints at Man Utd transfer exit

Victor Lindelof has revealed he will assess his Manchester United future at the end of the season after growing frustrated at the lack of minutes in Erik ten Hag's side.

The Swedish defender has started just five Premier League matches all season and is currently United's fourth choice centre-back behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire.

Lindelof was also snubbed by Ten Hag earlier in the season when the United boss started Luke Shaw at centre-back ahead of him against Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Manchester City.

He was a more prominent fixture in the Carabao Cup, featuring four times en route to the final as United beat Newcastle at Wembley last month. Lindelof also started five of United's six Europa League group stage matches and played in the FA Cup games against West Ham and Reading.

However, the 28-year-old isn't satisfied with his lack of game time, having played just 21 games in all competitions this term. "Of course like every player, you want to play every game and obviously I haven't done that this season," Lindelof said.

"But like I always say when I come here [international duty], it's a pleasure to be here and I'm always happy to represent my country.

"I'm really looking forward to the games that we have and I spoke to Janne [Sweden's manager] before to say I was really looking forward to coming here and to perform, and to be on the pitch with the guys again.

"Like I said, I want to play, that's why I play football, I want to play games, but I haven't thought about that [transfer away], right now I'm just focusing on the national team and then of course, the rest of the season with the club. Then in the summer we'll re-evaluate and see what is best."

Lindelof's United contract is set to run out in 2024 and he could be allowed to leave in the summer. Jose Mourinho's Roma have been linked with a move for the Sweden international, while a number of other clubs across Europe are also keen on the player.

As for Lindelof's aims for the rest of the season, he will be hoping to lift some more silverware as the Red Devils aim to win the Europa League and FA Cup. It is a distinct possibility United can win three trophies and finish in the top four this term - an achievement that would be incredible in Ten Hag's first season at Old Trafford.

However, there has been some uncertainty surrounding the future of the club in recent days, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani amongst the potential buyers. There is also some concern that the Glazers may not sell and stay at the Red Devils despite interest from other parties in taking over.

When asked about whether talk about the proposed takeover has impacted the players, Lindelof said: "No, not really I wouldn't say that. We know that there have been ongoing talks and whatever happens, happens, but our main focus is to play football."
