The victim of a horror crash caused by a coked up driver could be left unable to walk properly for the rest of his life.
Paul Tyler was trying to cross Prescot Road on the evening of April 14, 2021, when Allan Breen collided with him well over the 30mph speed limit, “catapulting” him on to the other side of the road. Breen, who had seven times the legal cocaine limit in his blood at the time of the crash, was jailed for two years and eight months at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday.
Another driver Amber Owen, who was speeding in front of Breen and narrowly avoided Tyler, was fined for her role in the accident.

In his statements to the court, Tyler said he was left with two open fractures to one of his legs, as well as injuries to his face and head. He required two surgeries in the immediate aftermath of the incident and a four week hospital stay.
Despite doctors’ best efforts, he has continued to have trouble and for a period after the accident he needed carers to help him live his life. Judge Gary Woodhall said it was clear Tyler continued to struggle with the effects of the accident more than a year later.
He said: ”This has had a massive impact on his life. He is somebody who lives alone, who has no-one in his immediate family near to assist him. He was left feeling like a prisoner in his own home.” Judge Woodhall added that the problems with his healing meant he may have to go through more medical procedures and that he may still be left with issues with his leg. He said: “He may yet need further surgery on his leg. It is stated his leg may be bent for the rest of his life.”
Breen has a slew of driving convictions, some so dangerous he has ended up in jail. Imprisoned for dangerous driving in 2006, he then went on to be convicted of driving under the influence in 2008. While there was a break in his horrendous behaviour behind the wheel for more than a decade, he would go on to be caught drug driving in 2019 when he was fined and disqualified again.
Even after he crashed into Mr Tyler, but before his case was brought to court, he continued to drive and was convicted of two more sets of drug driving offences in October last year. Breen, of Regal Road, was jailed for two years and eight months. Amber Owen, of Heather Brow, Claughton, was fined £450 and ordered to pay prosecution costs after admitting careless driving.
