Victim of homophobic attack warns of fake Twitter account trying to scam people for 'medical costs'

The victim of a homophobic attack in Dublin has warned people that a fake Twitter account has been set up to try and scam others to cover "medical costs".

The bogus profile is being used to appeal for donations supposedly to help Evan Somers with medical expenses.

Evan was brutally attacked in a homophobic assault over the weekend.

The 23-year-old was left with a fractured eye socket, two fractured bones in his ankle, a dislocated ankle, and small cuts and bruises. He also had to have surgery on his ankle.

But now, he's been targeted again, this time by fraudsters who are pretending to be him to try and scam members of the public.

The fake account tweeted: "If you’d like to help with any of the expenses, I’ve got Cashapp and Apple pay.

"Currently trying to get back into my Paypal and Venmo. Let me know once you’ve sent anything. Thank you."

But Evan warned his followers to not be tricked by the "sick person" running the scam.

He tweeted: “**FAKE ACCOUNT** This sick person is trying to scam people into sending them money by pretending to be me.

“Do not send any money to anyone, I will not be looking for any money at any stage and all communication will come from this account in general. Thanks.

"Can everyone please report and block the page so it should hopefully get deleted? Thanks very much."
