Vicky Pattison to embark on ambitious challenge after family heartbreak

While admitted she'd done 'zero preparation' for it, Vicky Pattison will embark on a 26 mile trek this weekend, in honour of her grandad David, who died earlier this year after a battle with dementia.

Vicky, who recently won widespread praise for her candid Channel 4 documentary My Dad, Alcohol and Me, appeared as studio guest on Thursday's Loose Women where, as well as speaking about some of the lessons she learnt about herself from doing the documentary, outlined her plans to do her grandad proud with the marathon mission.

Remembering her grandad, former Geordie Shore and I'm A Celebrity star Vicky said: "Such a lovely man. My grandad was the most amazing person; so active, so physically fit; couldn't do enough for us, a proper family man, us and his wife Mavis, we were just everything to him."

Vicky told the panel that after David developed dementia at 80-year-old, her family were left with 'no option' but to put him in assisted living, adding: "To see someone lose the memories they've spent a lifetime making is probably one of the most heartbreaking things you'll ever do.

"And I always say, I loved my grandad and I remember the things we did enough for both of us, but it's just the most heartbreaking disease," as Loose Women host Jane Moore replied: "It's harder, in a way, for the people who haven't got it, as you see the person you love disappearing."

Vicky then explained to pay tribute to her grandad she an fiancé Ercan Ramadan are taking on a 26 mile trek on Saturday to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, before joking: "Last week I was eating pittas and hummus in Greece, I've done absolutely nothing. I'm flying by the seat of my pants!"

She added: "I'm going to give it a good go and I'm proud to be affiliated with them. The people at the Alzheimer's Society do amazing work, not only for the people suffering, but also the relatives who are struggling in their own ways."
