Vicky Pattison says Geordie Shore was a ‘wedge’ between her and her mum, as she relives ‘broken’ childhood in emotional This Morning interview

Vicky Pattison has opened up about her "broken" childhood in an emotional interview on This Morning. The reality TV star, talking to Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes, ahead of her new documentary, Alcohol, My Dad and Me, chatted about the complex effects that addiction have had on her family.

"It would be dead easy for me to blame my complicated relationship with alcohol on Geordie Shore but that wouldn’t be true," said Vicky, who appeared on the MTV reality show between 2011 and 2014. She added: "My mum didn’t recognise the person I became on Geordie Shore. It became a wedge between us. She lost her fun, light, caricatured daughter."

After watching a clip from the documentary, both Rochelle and Vicky appeared to get tearful with the former revealing: “That makes me emotional watching that,” before the Geordie Shore star revealed that filming the documentary was a "cathartic" experience and made her realise how "broken" her childhood was.

During the interview, Vicky talked about how she wants to remove the stigma around addiction. She said: "I think for years, I was ashamed of my Dad’s illness and felt like I couldn’t tell anyone. I was in my late twenties before I said it out loud and then, it was even later than that where I looked at my own complicated relationship with alcohol."

During the Channel 4 documentary, which airs on Tuesday (August 2), Vicky opens up about her father, John's, turbulent relationship with alcohol. She also explores her own fears about addiction and the physical and emotional damage it can do.
