Vicky Pattison's tears up on The One Show as she admits she was 'terrified' of becoming an alcoholic like her dad

Reality TV veteran of Geordie Shore and I'm a Celebrity, Vicky Pattison, broke down on The One Show as she spoke about being scared of becoming an alcoholic at the age of 35, the same age as her dad was when his problems with drink started.

Appearing on the BBC evening show tonight, Monday, July 18, the Geordie TV star was speaking about a new documentary My Dad, Alcohol & Me - which airs on Channel 4 next month - that gives an insight into her relationship with alcohol and growing up with an alcoholic parent.

Vicky, who is just about to turn 35, revealed that was the age her dad became an alcoholic and has opened up about he fears for her own future after what she described as her own 'turbulent relationship' with alcohol. She explained to hosts Alex Scott and Ronan Keating how she felt and what, in the end, made her different from her dad.

"So I'm 35 this year and that was exactly when my dad started to lose his battle with addiction and that's terrifying for me. I'm very well aware that my turbulent relationship with alcohol has got me into trouble in the past, but I couldn't get that thought out my mind that this was the year it was all going to unravel and I felt it was this predetermined conclusion and no matter how hard I tried, how many yoga retreats I went to, how many smoothies I dranks, sober Octobers I did, I was just going to end up the same," explained the I'm a Celebrity winner.

But, she added that her own desire and awareness means that her life could be different, adding: "I realise I've got one thing on my said that wasn't available to him, I've got this huge desire to not be that way, this awareness of what could happen. I do want a life filled with different things and um.... sorry," she stopped, getting upset.

Ronan and Alex, interjected, with former footballer Scott saying the documentary is: "so powerful and will help so many people." And singer Keating added that Vicky was an 'inspiration.'

Before Vicky talked openly about her fears she spoke more about making the documentary which will air on Tuesday, August 2, including how difficult it was to have hard conversations with her dad. "I don't think it's ever easy to have seriously open conversations, that are going to be difficult, with the people you love. I hate confrontation with people I love and having to give me dad tough love was really difficult and my instinct was to wrap him up in cotton wool he's had a hard enough life as it is.

"He didn't choose to be this way, but as I learned, with the mediation I went through in the documentary, sometimes tough love is the only way."

She added she was pleased with the show and hoped that it might break down the taboo and stigma around addiction. She also updated viewers on her dad saying: "[He's] So good, he was meant to come here today but it was too hot for him - proper Geordie fella!"
