Vicky Pattison reveals she was once asked to 'plank' during bizarre BBC interview

Vicky Pattison has revealed that she once had to 'plank' while answering questions in a very strange interview with the BBC.

The 35-year-old from Newcastle took to Radio 4's Saturday Live show this morning, talking all things from her new book 'The Secret to Happy' to her harrowing experiences on Geordie Shore.

Right at the start of the programme, the Geordie kicked things off by talking to Nikki Bedi about the strangest interviews that she's ever been a part of - detailing one experience which took place at the BBC itself, between herself and Matt Edmondson.

Nikki kicked things off by saying: "Vicky, let me come to you first, what's the funniest or oddest interview you've had?" to which she replied: "Well, actually I feel like I've got Matt to blame for this one."

Matt chimed in: "I'm so sorry," before Vicky retorted: "No! Don't apologise, I feel like odd - but definitely memorable and very fun as well. You used to do...I don't know if you're still doing it?"

Matt said: "No, Covid really put an end to it. Is it 'plank all over me'?" with Vicky sharply adding: "Yes I am, I'm talking about 'plank all over me' - and actually Matt, I had a really nice time," before Richard Coles butted in: "We need a bit of kind of guidance here...yes please."

Vicky then detailed how Matt would lie on the floor at Radio 1 and his interviewee would assume a 'plank' exercise position over the top of him while answering questions. Matt, added: "The idea is that the longer they could keep themselves in a plank - which is quite hard to do - the longer they got interviewed for.

"So it was up to them how long they were on for."

Richard questioned: "So, if you have a core like a bag of porridge, just saying, it would be a short interview? We might have got to know each other quite well, quite quickly."

And Nikki also had questions of her own, adding: "How close are your sort of, intimate areas to each other?" with Matt replying: "Well it depends on the core of the person planking."

He continued: "Part of the joy of it is how unusual it was. It's very strange to be that close to somebody unless you're that close to somebody. It creates a sort of interesting energy."

Vicky added: "You know, you're so right. I think awkwardness aside or whatever, you quickly get over that. And actually, because you're so fixated on the physical - like holding that pose...and if you're anything like me, a bit competitive - you forget to have any sort of filter.

"So you get this really honest, very organic version. Was that the idea all along you genius?"

To which, Matt replied: "Well I just thought it was funny. I thought the name was funny, I thought the idea of it was funny - I thought the format of someone having to control the length of the interview based on their own abilities was interesting."
