A trailer has been released for the new short film titled Good Grief , starring Nottingham’s own, Vicky McClure – BAFTA winner and star of BBC hit show Line of Duty. McClure will narrate the film, which tells the story of four separate women who lose a child at different stages of their motherhood, and the grief that follows.
The trailer, which was released earlier in March, intimately portrays mothers at different stages of their life, some seemingly after a loss, and some hearing the news they’ve dreamed off or sharing a moment with their child. Scored with haunting affect, and narrated by McClure, the preview is aiming to give snapshot of highest of highs and the lowest of lows – something it achieves and then some.
The central theme of grief is the highlight though, as evidenced by the heart wrenching closing shot of the trailer – the sobs of a mother who has lost her world. Tackling and understanding grief is a core theme for the characters, clearly, but also a wider one for audiences too.

Rob Sharp, writer and director of the short, has said: “There is a big chance you will know someone who has suffered such a loss, or unfortunately this may be something that has happened to you. It is far more common than any of us can imagine and yet it is a subject that we do not talk about."
The film is co-produced by Forever Stars, a Nottingham stillbirth and child bereavement charity, set up following the stillbirth of Emily Daniels, daughter of founders Michelle and Richard.
