Vicky McClure 'nervous and excited' as she prepares for hometown gig at Splendour Festival

Nottingham Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure will be joining the lineup at Splendour Festival with her Dementia Choir alongside Brit Nominee Tom Grennan. She will join other stars on the bill including Anne-Marie, The Human League, Richard Ashcroft, Supergrass and Craig David.

Vicky is due to take to the main stage at 3.30 pm on Sunday, July 24, while being filmed for her new BBC documentary film. Vicky says playing to a hometown crowd has been 'a dream' of hers.

"The best way to describe it is a dream come true. I come here every year and it's my favorite festival. It's been my dream since we started this choir to play here," she said.

Splendour has a capacity of 25,000 fans and there are already thousands in the park enjoying the music on Saturday afternoon, July 23. There are similar numbers expected for tomorrow.

"There are definite nerves and excitement all at the same time. When I'm with the choir tomorrow, I think that will help to calm me down. They will be taking it in their stride a lot more than me as I'm feeling nervous but I'm confident they will absolutely smash it."

Vicky is excited to attend some of the gigs as well as her own performance.

"I'm really looking forward to watching Craig David today and I want to see the choir. There are loads of great people here. The Happy Mondays I always want to see as I love Shaun and Bez. I'm looking forward to seeing the choir on stage and educating people about dementia," she said.

The Dementia Choir was formed in 2019 as part of a documentary filmed by Vicky for BBC One that examines the role music can play in helping people living with the condition. The documentary has gone on to be nominated for a BAFTA and the award-winning actress has remained working with the choir ever since.

The actress opened up in the series about caring for her grandmother, Iris, who passed away. Vicky went on to form the choir to see if music could help to make a difference after being inspired by her life.

The new documentary will be aired on BBC in Autumn.
