Vicky McClure has clapped back at “rude” comments from ITV viewers in response to the series finale of Trigger Point over the weekend.
The bomb disposal drama has been renewed for a second season after the six-part series starring Vicky McClure as explosives officer Lana Washington wrapped up on Sunday.
The series raked in 11 million views as it followed the Metropolitan Police bomb disposal squad and counter terrorism unit confronting an imminent terrorist threat in the City of London over the summer.
But ITV viewers labelled the finale “so, so predictable” as it was revealed the person behind the bombing attacks was Lana's love interest Karl, played by Warren Brown.
As he jumped on stage at a policing by-election with a pack of explosives strapped to his chest, he was unmasked as the villain behind a string of high-profile attacks, including a car bomb which killed Lana’s brother Billy.
However, several fans were disappointed with the high-octane twist and said they had seen it coming that Karl was the mastermind behind white supremacist group The Crusaders.
The 38-year-old Line of Duty star has now responded to the criticism following the finale of the ITV drama.
Vicky took to Twitter after the sixth instalment aired and penned a message to those behind the “rude comments”.
Vicky retweeted a comment from a fan which read: “Ignore the rude comments, you were amazing”.
The Kate Fleming actress wrote: “Rude comments are like a cold chocolate brownie… disappointing, still eat it but quickly forgotten.”
She continued: “Warm chocolate brownies are the best… as are warm comments,” followed by a brown love-heart and smiling face emoji.
As the credits rolled on the first series of Trigger Point, ITV announced they had renewed the show for a second instalment.
Producer Jed Mecurio said: “Everyone at HTM Television is thrilled by the success of Trigger Point. Thanks to all our brilliant cast and crew and especially to the viewers who watched in such large numbers.
“We've received unswerving support from ITV throughout the production and we are delighted to have been commissioned for a second series.”
Scriptwriter Daniel Brierly added: “I'm honoured and excited to be given the chance to continue Lana's story.
“I feel there's many more twists and turns in her future. It's been thrilling to see how the public have responded to our show and I can't wait to see what they will make of the next instalment!”
