Vicious road rage incident caught on camera in Cork suburb leaves bystanders in shock

A vicious act of road rage has been caught on camera in an Irish suburb.

The 30-second clip shows the shocking incident at a busy traffic light in the centre of Douglas village in Co Cork.

Footage of the act has been seen widely across social media and has prompted an urgent debate on violence on Irish streets.

The video is believed to have been shot in the centre of the village outside the main entrance to the Village shopping centre, during rush hour on Tuesday evening. In the clip, a man, who appears to be in his 30s, gets out of a black car which had stopped over the pedestrian crossing to remonstrate with the driver of a white SUV behind him.

The first driver then returns to his car at the lights but is immediately followed by the driver of the second car, who makes a go for the driver of the black car as he is sitting in his vehicle. As shocked onlookers watch, there is a very quick altercation, with the younger man climbing inside the car with his arms flailing.

One person who said they witnessed the incident said it seemed to begin after the driver of the black car was annoyed by getting a 'hurry up' beep from the white SUV behind him. The witness said the man refused to move forward into the Yellow Box junction, which is a notorious traffic bottleneck spot.

When he got out of his car to confront the driver, it sparked a very sudden incident. Gardai have told CorkBeo that they do not have a report of any such event in Douglas Village on Tuesday evening.

It's one of the most shocking incidents caught on camera in Cork in some time, and it prompted a flurry of calls to the Neil Prendervile Show on Red FM.
