Vicente Guaita hints at Crystal Palace exit - ‘How can I not want to return to Valencia?’

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has admitted he would like to return to former club Valencia at some point in his career.

The Spaniard has proven a brilliant piece of transfer business for Palace, joining the club on a free transfer from Getafe in 2018.

Since, the 35-year-old has made 122 appearances for the club and was voted Palace’s Player of the Season in June 2021.

Even amid Patrick Vieira’s rebuild this summer, the 35-year-old remains a huge part of the first-team at Selhurst Park, starting 26 Premier League thus far.

Currently, Guaita has another year on his contract and remains a top-level shot-stopper, as was evident during Palace’s draw with Manchester City last month.

Still, while he admitted he was “comfortable” at Palace for the time being, Guaita did hint a return to Valencia could be on the cards later in his career.

A product of the club’s academy, the ‘keeper made 113 appearances for his boyhood club between 2008 and 2014.

“I have one year left on my contract and an optional one at Palace,” he told AS. “I’m very comfortable in the Premier League, it’s amazing how you live football here.

“I have less and less years left and I don’t know if I will have those years to be able to return to Spain. Speaking homestly, I would like to return to Valencia. I think I could have played for many years at Valencia. Being a Valencianista, leaving the club. How can I not want to return to Valencia?”
