Vicente Besuijen transfer thrills Aberdeen boss but Stephen Glass confesses he wants more signings

Aberdeen have spent big on Dutch winger Vicente Besuijen but Stephen Glass still wants to add more attacking players before the transfer window shuts.

The Dons have swooped to land the 20-year-old from ADO Den Haag in a six-figure deal.

Glass had to fight off Premiership rivals and European clubs to land Besuijen on a four-and-a-half-year contract

But asked about further signings, the Pittodrie gaffer said: “It would be nice, yes.

“It is going to be difficult because the club made a big investment in Vicente as well. However, you are always asking for more as a manager and staff.”

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is one of the options Aberdeen are exploring but Glass admits they need to be creative and
look at other markets.

The Netherlands was a happy hunting ground in the 1980s and 90s, with stars such as Theo Snelders and Hans Gillhaus making a big impact at Pittodrie.

Now Glass is hoping Besuijen can hit the ground running after winning the fight for the winger.

He said: “You want people to want to come to your club. He’s shown a clear desire to. You want to be the team that gets players when they have choices. He has played for Den Haag in the Eredivisie and has a good number of games for a young player.

“We feel like this is a great place for him to continue his development. He’s an attacking player – he can play wide, off
the front, he can play right across the front. He’s here to be a big part of what we’re doing.”

Serie A side Bologna are set to make an improved bid for Aberdeen kid Calvin Ramsay after their £3.3million offer was rejected.

Leicester, Manchester United and Tottenham are leading the interest from south of the border but Glass said: “I don’t deal with the bids. Once they start getting close, I’ll get told, ‘You may need to start planning for something else’. We’re not at that stage yet.”

Blackburn remain in pursuit of winger Ryan Hedges and Glass added: “It looks like he has been affected a touch.

“We will either get to the end of January and we will see the proper Ryan Hedges again or he will be gone.”
