Vice President JD Vance delivered a keynote address at the AI Action Summit in Paris, emphasizing the critical need to ensure that U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) systems remain free from ideological bias. He cautioned against collaborating with hostile foreign adversaries on AI capabilities, highlighting the importance of safeguarding American AI from authoritarian censorship.
Vance's remarks align with the Trump administration's stance on promoting deregulation of AI to foster innovation and growth in the industry. He advocated for a balanced approach that avoids excessive regulation, which could potentially impede the progress of AI technologies.
While the U.S. and the UK opted out of signing an international document prioritizing ethical and transparent AI development, Vance reiterated the administration's commitment to protecting American AI and chip technology from theft and misuse.

During the summit, world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Shri Modi engaged in discussions on the intersection of tech policy with global security and governance. Vance warned against foreign governments imposing restrictions on U.S. tech companies and reiterated the administration's stance against collaborating with adversaries who exploit AI for censorship and surveillance.
In line with the administration's efforts to advance AI in the U.S., President Trump unveiled the Stargate project, a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative aimed at constructing state-of-the-art data centers to power AI technologies. The project, a collaboration between Softbank, OpenAI, and Oracle, represents a significant investment in AI innovation.
While Vance expressed a willingness to collaborate with other nations on AI development, Macron proposed a 'third way' approach for Europe to drive AI innovation independently. Macron called for enhanced international governance on AI policy to ensure fair and open access to AI innovations worldwide.
