Vice President Kamala Harris is set to embark on a series of trips to Louisiana, Texas, and Indiana in July, with the aim of engaging key constituencies such as Black, women, and young voters. Her office announced on Wednesday that these speaking engagements in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Indianapolis are part of her deliberate efforts to build coalitions and directly connect with various groups across the nation.
Black voters played a significant role in President Biden's electoral success in 2020, with Biden securing 61% of the Black vote, which accounted for 56% of the Democratic primary electorate, as per exit polling data. These upcoming trips have been dubbed the 'Summer of Engagement' events and will feature moderated conversations at the ESSENCE Festival of Culture and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s Grand Boulé.
Additionally, Vice President Harris is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the 71st Boulé of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., of which she is a member. This sorority holds the distinction of being the oldest Greek-letter organization founded by Black college-educated women.
Since the beginning of 2024, the vice president has already taken part in over 60 trips spanning 20 states, underscoring her commitment to engaging with diverse communities and fostering meaningful dialogues.
