Vice President Kamala Harris recently addressed the issue of lowering child care costs for American families during a discussion with the National Association of Black Journalists. While she emphasized the importance of creating an 'opportunity economy' that benefits all, she offered few specific plans when pressed for details on how she intends to achieve this goal.

One of the panelists questioned Harris about her strategies for reducing child care expenses, beyond the child tax credit she has previously proposed. In response, Harris acknowledged the challenges faced by working families who often have to make difficult choices between employment and affording child care.

Harris stated that no family should have to spend more than 7% of their income on child care. However, she did not outline any specific policies or initiatives that would be implemented to ensure that this target is met.

While Harris's vision for an 'opportunity economy' aims to make the American dream more attainable for young people, the lack of concrete plans regarding child care costs has left some questioning the feasibility of her proposals. As the discussion continues around this important issue, it remains to be seen how the Vice President will address the pressing concerns of American families struggling with child care expenses.
