Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit areas impacted by Hurricane Helene, the strongest hurricane on record to hit Florida's Big Bend region. The visit will take place once it is feasible without disrupting ongoing emergency response operations.
During a rally in Las Vegas, Harris expressed her condolences to those affected by the devastating hurricane. She assured the communities in Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and other impacted states that they have the support of the nation in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Harris was briefed by FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell on the federal response to Hurricane Helene, which resulted in significant damage across multiple states. The storm claimed the lives of at least 95 individuals, left millions without power, and led to families being trapped in floodwaters.
In addition to her discussions with Criswell, Harris also engaged with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper to address ongoing rescue and recovery operations. She reached out to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to offer support and assistance in the aftermath of the hurricane.
The Vice President's visit to the affected areas underscores the administration's commitment to standing with communities in times of crisis and providing the necessary resources for their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
