Vice President Harris has refrained from commenting on whether she believes President Biden is currently fit to serve as commander in chief, amidst growing calls from lawmakers to invoke the 25th Amendment.
Biden's decision to withdraw from the presidential race following concerns about his performance and mental acuity during the first debate has raised questions about his ability to continue his term if he is unable to seek re-election.
Following Biden's unexpected announcement, there has been speculation about Harris potentially stepping in as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 election. However, some lawmakers, such as Rep. Nancy Mace, have expressed a desire for Biden to step down before January.
Despite attempts to reach out to Harris for her opinion on Biden's fitness for office, no response has been received from her office.
Since testing positive for COVID-19 and abruptly ending his re-election campaign, Biden has not made any public appearances. Questions regarding his whereabouts and communication with Harris have also gone unanswered.
Sen. Eric Schmitt has taken a firm stance on the matter by sending a letter to Harris, asserting that Biden is unfit to serve and urging the invocation of the 25th Amendment.
In his letter, Schmitt stated, 'Joe Biden has decided he isn’t capable of being a candidate; in so doing his admission also means he cannot serve as President. Therefore, it is in the best immediate interest of the safety of the United States for Joe Biden to resign from office or face removal under the 25th Amendment.'
