Vice President Kamala Harris' Los Angeles home was placed under an evacuation order on Wednesday as wildfires rapidly intensified in the area. The evacuation order was issued for the Brentwood neighborhood where Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff maintain a residence.
A spokesperson for Harris, Ernesto Apreza, confirmed that no one was in the home at the time of the evacuation order. Apreza stated that Harris and Emhoff are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians, as well as the first responders and Secret Service personnel involved in managing the wildfires.
Harris, who is currently in Washington, is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with state and local officials. She has offered federal assistance to aid in responding to and recovering from the wildfires.
Despite the evacuation order, the Secret Service presence at Harris' residence ensures that the home can be secured and evacuated efficiently. Former USSS agent confirmed that the Service has established plans for evacuations during natural disasters for all protectees, allowing for a swift response in such situations.
Reporters are expected to see Vice President Harris later on Wednesday as she participates in the vice presidential tradition of signing her desk. Harris and Emhoff are likely to return to Los Angeles after leaving office, as they have frequented their Brentwood home over the past four years.
