She spearheaded a 'reproductive freedoms tour' earlier this year, which included a visit to an abortion clinic in Minnesota, a historic move for a sitting US president or vice president.
Her remarks in Houston came after attending a successful fundraiser in the city that raised $2.5 million. The Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, part of the Divine Nine historically Black fraternities and sororities, hosted the event. Harris herself is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, another Divine Nine sorority.
