Viaplay in 'business as usual' update on Scottish football deal

Viaplay chiefs insist it's "business as usual" for Scottish football despite fears as the broadcaster announced a strategic review of international markets.

The Nordic broadcaster this morning announced a radical change to focus on markets closer to home.

Viaplay announced a new strategic plan with Nordic markets, the Netherlands and Viaplay Select to be the main focal points moving forward.

And the broadcaster will review international markets, including the UK, with "optimal solutions" to be sought and rights partnerships a possibility.

Viaplay is currently the title sponsor of the Scottish League Cup and holds exclusive coverage rights to the competition, as well as the Scottish Cup and coverage of the Scotland national team.

It's understood the SPFL and Scottish FA are relaxed over the situation with fees up-to-date and no concern over coverage moving forward.

And Viaplay echoed the sentiment in a statement confirming it's "business as usual" with Scottish football at the current time.

However, there is scope for that to change in the future - with any updates to be revealed if and when they are confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Viaplay Group said: "As per our report, we have announced a new strategic plan where Viaplay Group’s focus going forward will be in the Nordic markets, in the Netherlands and on our Viaplay Select business.

"We have initiated a strategic review for our other International markets, including the UK, where we will seek optimal solutions for our operations, including partnerships.

"Until then it is business as usual, what our customers can watch on Viaplay today will be there tomorrow too.

"As soon as we have any updates, we will of course communicate."
