The Green Bay Packers need a wide receiver. A.J. Green might need a change of scenery.
Could this be a trade match for the Packers and Green?
Dan Graziano of ESPN pointed to Green as an “interesting name” he’s heard for the Packers with the NFL’s trade deadline approaching.
The good: Green caught 54 passes for 838 yards and three scores while averaging 9.2 yards per target last season in Arizona.
The bad: Green is averaging 5.6 yards per catch and 2.5 yards per target (with two drops) on 22 targets this season.
The very bad: Green is now 34 years old and averaging 0.34 yards per route run in 2022. He has 56 yards on 164 routes run. He might be cooked.
The Packers recently put Randall Cobb on injured reserve, Allen Lazard has a new shoulder injury and rookie Christian Watson is recovering from another hamstring injury, so there’s a real depth and talent issue at receiver for the Packers entering Week 8.
Could Green get back to 2021 levels with a new opportunity in Green Bay? Or has Father Time caught up to him?
The Packers are 3-4 and need help on offense, especially at receiver, but trading draft capital for a 34-year-old who has struggled mightily this season is a big reach.
