Despite the positive feedback from O'Hara and some family members of the fallen soldiers, reports emerged of an altercation between Arlington staff and the Trump campaign. Allegations surfaced that two campaign staff members engaged in verbal abuse and physical confrontation with cemetery officials over photography restrictions.
Arlington National Cemetery officials reiterated the prohibition of political campaign activities within the premises, including photography for partisan political purposes. The cemetery confirmed an incident had occurred and a report was filed regarding the altercation.
In response, a Trump campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, suggested that the staff member enforcing the photography restrictions may have been experiencing a mental health issue. Cheung clarified that the campaign had obtained approval to have a photographer present at the event.
Despite the controversy surrounding the photography incident, family members of the fallen service members expressed gratitude to Trump for attending the ceremony and offering support during their time of grief. Five family members released a statement acknowledging Trump's compassion and respect during the event.
