'Very, very quiet' - The key to Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence's Nottingham Forest bond

Nottingham Forest thrived under Sabri Lamouchi as Joe Lolley and Matty Cash tore Championship teams to shreds down the right hand side in the 2019/20 season.

Now they have a new magical duo in the form of Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence as Forest look to force their way into the play-offs come the end of the current campaign.

Both players look destined for the Premier League sooner rather than later and fans will hope that is in a Reds shirt.

Brennan's father David, the former Forest striker, says there is no great secret to the successful link between the two beyond keeping it simple.

"Djed plays to his strengths and Brennan plays around Djed," he said on this week's Garibaldi Red podcast.

"Djed will take on the full back within 30 seconds and run from one end to the other. He's always on the front foot.

"Defensively he's up there with the best in the division. That's how he can get away with it.

"He's got so much potential. He plays to his strengths, which helps the team and Brennan.

"They don't link up massively. I think they've had one assist to each other, but I wouldn't want to be a left-sided player in the Championship playing against those two.

"Djed is very, very quiet. Brennan is similar. They're not loud or lairy. The manager says they sit there and don't talk to each other, but they are close."

Forest are back in action tonight when they travel to Preston North End, kick-off 7.45pm.
