Viewers have praised a “touching” documentary featuring never-seen-before footage of the Queen ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.
The BBC episode which aired on Sunday evening featured film and photographs of the Queen from the Royal Family’s private collection.
Viewers took to special media to praise the episode, with many paying tribute to the 96-year-old monarch, who is celebrating 70 years on the throne.
One person said: “It’s hard to imagine a woman more entrenched in family than The Queen. The Unseen Queen is a love letter to life and was amazing to see living history”.
Another added: “Elizabeth the unseen Queen on @BBCOne a truly remarkable Woman who represents, all that is good about our great country, and a Monarch we can all be proud of. 70 years of duty #PlatinumJubilee”.
A third posted: “Really enjoying ‘Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen’. So very touching.”
Another viewer said: “Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen how amazing is it and so emotional with the Queens narration”.
The 75-minute episode follows her life as a princess through hundreds of clips that were released for the first time.
The footage showed the Queen’s early life, including being pushed in a pram by her mother to her coronation in 1953.
In another scene, the Royal Family could be seen relaxing on board the Royal Navy’s battleship HMS Vanguard in 1947, the vessel which took them to and from South Africa for their tour at the time.
In a personal message recorded at Windsor Castle to introduce the documentary, the Queen said: “Cameras have always been a part of our lives.
“I think there’s a difference to watching a home-movie, when you know who it is on the other side of the lens, holding the camera. It adds to the sense of intimacy.
“Like many families, my parents wanted to keep a record of our precious moments together. And when it was our turn with our own family, we did the same.
“I always enjoyed capturing family moments.
“Private photos can often show the fun behind the formality.
“I expect just about every family has a collection of photographs or films that were once regularly looked at to recall precious moments but which, over time, are replaced by newer images and more recent memories.”
“You always hope that future generations will find them interesting, and perhaps be surprised that you too were young once.”
