Manchester United supporters have offered up mixed reactions to a potentially significant update in the pursuit to sign Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman remains the priority target for Erik ten Hag, although negotiations over him have not proved straightforward.
Talks over the Netherlands international started nearly two months ago. It appeared there was a green light for United last month when they confirmed an agreement in principle with Barcelona worth €65million.
That news came at the same time as United agreed terms with Feyenoord for Tyrell Malacia - and the Netherlands defender soon put pen to paper on a switch before jetting out to Thailand with his teammates for the first leg of their summer tour. However, things have not been quite so plain sailing when it comes to De Jong.

Two weeks have passed since the clubs involved came to an agreement. However, while the pursuit for his signature appeared to have stalled, there has been further encouragement for United after Richard Arnold and John Murtough were spotted in Barcelona on Monday afternoon.
Arnold and Murtough did not travel with the squad to Bangkok as they, instead, attempt to finalise a switch for De Jong to really get their summer business up and running. Aside from Malacia and De Jong, other targets on the radar for Ten Hag this summer include Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen.
An offer has been submitted for Martinez and Eriksen has verbally agreed to sign a three-year contract. De Jong, though, would represent a marquee addition.
Of course, Dutchman is well-known to Ten Hag from their Ajax days and the playmaker was identified as a standout target for Ten Hag when he was appointed United manager. Here are a selection of comments on the De Jong update as taken from social media platform Twitter.
