'Very possible' - Rivaldo tells Roberto Firmino to leave Liverpool for European giant

Brazil legend Rivaldo says a move to Barcelona 'makes sense' for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.

The 30-year-old is in the final 18 months of his contract at Anfield and has been linked with a move to the La Liga giants in recent weeks.

Diogo Jota's form, combined with injury troubles, has meant Firmino's game time this season has been reduced.

The Brazilian has made just 13 Premier League appearances so far this season, but has stepped up in the absence of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

However, Rivaldo believes with a World Cup on the horizon, a move to Barcelona 'makes sense' for the player.

"Although he already plays for a big European club, I am sure that any player dreams of playing for a club like Barcelona, and Roberto Firmino should be no different, especially in the current situation where he has been playing less at Liverpool," he told Betfair .

"Arriving at Barcelona and establishing himself as one of the stars of the team would be great for Firmino.

"And that could enable him to be called up again for Brazil in a World Cup year. So, I see this transfer as very possible and it could benefit all parties given the current situation.

"Liverpool will be able to receive some money and get him of their wage bill while Barcelona can bring in a great striker for a reasonable price.

"The player himself can arrive in a team where he will be one of the main players and return to being an option in the Brazilian national team ahead of the World Cup."

Firmino has been left out of Brazil's squad for their upcoming qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

The player's contract situation will certainly be a priority for Liverpool as clubs will be ready to pounce if an agreement cannot be reached.
