Vera series 11 blow for fans as ITV have 'no news' on when remaining episodes will air

Vera fans are still being kept in the dark on when the much loved drama will return as ITV have 'no news' on what will happen with the final two episodes of series 11.

After the coronavirus threw a huge spanner in the works of production on the latest run of the long-running show, filming on it finally got going in the autumn of 2020, when crowds flocked to see Brenda Blethyn and other Vera cast members and crew shoot scenes in Tynemouth.

With filming delayed, fans had to wait a little longer to get their Vera fix on TV, with the first two episodes of series 11 finally airing at the end of August 2021, before Vera disappeared from schedules after just a fortnight of being back.

After nearly four months of waiting to see what Ann Cleeves' iconic character DCI Stanhope had got up two, episode three of Vera series 11 was shown at the start of this year, featuring a frantic chase around South Shields' Ocean Beach theme park as its conclusion. Another feature length instalment followed a few later, before there was another blow to viewers when Vera was pulled by ITV once again, with no explanation as to why.

It had been confirmed that all of series 11 was in the can so Vera fans were annoyed and baffled as to why they didn't get to see the rest of the series. Since Vera has been taken off air other big dramas like Trigger Point and Karen Pirie have aired in its Sunday night slot on TV.

And it was when the latter came to an end that questions were once again asked about what was happening with Vera. ChronicleLive put the question to ITV Drama, with a spokesperson responding that they 'had no news' on when episodes five and six of series 11 would air.

The mystery surrounding the rest of Vera's latest series in the UK is made all the more strange by the fact that American audiences have already been able to watch it in its entirety on BritBox. There is some good news for Vera fans on home soil though, as filming has wrapped on series 12 and leading lady Brenda also told fans there was 'more to come.'
