Ibinabo Jack quits Vera days after Kenny Doughty announced his exit from ITV drama

Vera star Ibinabo Jack has quit the ITV drama, days after Kenny Doughty announced that he'd left the show.

There was great news for Vera fans on Thursday morning when, after Brenda Blethyn had pretty much let the cat out of the bag that it was coming back at the weekend, ITV bosses officially confirmed that series 13 is happening.

Kenny's exit has left plenty of fans concerned that the writing may be on the wall for the much loved programme, especially after he preceded his announcement with a 'thank you for the memories' post on Instagram. But all fears that Vera was facing an uncertain future have now been put to bed, with the news that a brand new series is very much on the horizon.

However, one actor who won't play a part in it is Ibinabo, who has been in the role of Jac since 2018, establishing herself as a firm favourite with viewers.

Her Vera departure, which is due to theatre commitments, was confirmed by ITV at the same as the new series was rubber stamped, with both she and Kenny bowing out from their roles in special episode, The Rising Tide, which was filmed before Christmas.

The other big bit of casting news to emerge out of ITV's announcement on Thursday was that David Leon, DCI Stanhope's original sidekick, will be back to reprise his role as Joe Ashworth.

Cast returning alongside Brenda and David for three new feature length films include Jon Morrison, who plays DC Kenny Lockhart and Riley Jones, who plays DC Mark Edwards. Further castings and information about the new series will be announced when filming commences in the summer.
