Vera's Brenda Blethyn to lead stars at special event in Whitley Bay hosted by Steph McGovern

Brenda Blethyn has been confirmed to appear at an event which will be an absolute must for Vera fans in Whitley Bay.

Lovers of all things DCI Stanhope have been keeping their eyes peeled in recent months as Brenda and other members of cast and crew involved with the hit ITV crime drama have been back in the region to film for the new series. Locations the Vera team have been spotted this time round include Elswick, Amble and Morpeth.

And another place they are no stranger to is Whitley Bay, with filming taking place in the area on multiple occasions since the show made its debut over a decade ago. And it's the coast where Brenda, on-screen sidekick Kenny Doughty and author Ann Cleeves will be on Thursday, September 2 when they take the stage for Viva Vera at Playhouse Whitley Bay.

Tickets for Viva Vera go on sale at 10am on Friday, May 20 from t he Playhouse website and another familiar face will join the Vera stars on the night will be hosted by Packed Lunch presenter Steph McGovern.

The theatre announced the event on Monday night and a Facebook post about it quickly gathered a wealth of comments and hundreds of shares. A teaser for Viva Vera reads: "Join bestselling author and creator of the Vera Stanhope series, Ann Cleeves, for an exclusive event with special guests; Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty, beloved stars of the award-winning hit show, now in production for its 12th series on ITV.

"Hosted by C4’s Steph McGovern, this will be an evening not to miss, as they reunite on Vera’s home ground to celebrate the character’s incredible journey on page and screen, and to mark the launch of the tenth Vera novel, The Rising Tide."
