Vera's Brenda Blethyn put on spot by fan over 'stunt double' at end of latest episode

Brenda Blethyn has been put on the spot by a fan over the use of a 'stunt double' for the closing scenes of Sunday night's Vera, responding with a rather cryptic answer.

After an audience close to five million tuned in for the highly anticipated return of the ITV drama, they were rewarded with an action packed episode which started with a hit and run robbery attempt at a Blyth shipping port and ended with a tense gun stand-off at South Shields' Ocean Beach theme park.

The Vera action continued on Sunday, January 16 with 'As The Crow Flies,' an episode which saw Vera and her team have to unravel the mysterious death of a teacher whose body was found at the bottom of cliffs by the coast.

What, at first ,seemed like a tragic accident, soon spiralled into something more sinister as the victim's family feuds came to light.

As all Vera episodes do, the fourth part of series 11 had many twists and turns before coming to a tense conclusion.

After wrapping up her work on another case, viewers saw Vera get into her famous Land Rover Defender and drive off, as the camera followed from a distance.

But, given that we didn't actually see lead actress Brenda behind the wheel, some fans became convinced it was a stunt double driving the vehicle.

And, quizzing her directly, one tweeted Brenda to ask: "At the end of tonight’s episode 16/01, is that really you driving off or is it a stunt person? I said it’s you he says no, can you settle this please?"

Brenda was swift to reply, writing: "It's Vera."

Her host response quickly gathered comments from the BAFTA winner's many followers, with one telling her; "We had a similar discussion."

Brenda's cryptic reply led one fan to tweet: "Clever answer!!!!!" with another posting: "Nice dodge!"

A fourth joked: "Whoever it was they were lucky to see out of that drivers wing mirror.."

Fans of Vera have been left gutted by the news that it won't be on next Sunday, with The Great Karma Hospital going into its 8pm slot to be followed by new thriller Trigger Point at 9pm.

There are two episodes or Vera series 11 still to air and viewers are now left wondering when they'll get to see them on ITV.
