Brenda Blethyn has received high praise from a famous former Coronation Street star for her performances in Vera, with the actress in question refusing to rule out a future role in the ITV drama.
Having seen her on-screen sidekick Kenny Doughty announce his departure from Vera last week, leaving fans to speculate about what that would mean for the future of the much loved ITV show, Brenda publicly confirmed that there will be another series, as she directly responded to a fans concerns on Twitter.
And she also gave as 'promise' that viewers won't be disappointed with what's to come, as they reacted with sadness to Kenny leaving his role as DS Aiden Healy after eight years of starring alongside Brenda's no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope.
As Vera fans wait for more news on what's to come for Brenda's iconic on-screen alias, the BAFTA and Golden Globe winner has been championed by Sally Lindsay, the former Corrie star who is now herself famous for playing a TV detective, taking the lead role in Channel 5's Madame Blanc.
Heaping praise on Brenda and saying the show 'couldn't happen without her,' Sally, instantly recognisable to soap fans for playing Rovers barmaid Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street in the 00s, told the Express: "I love Vera. I think Brenda Blethyn is great. She’s brilliant. I think she’s a great actress anyway but I think what’s great about Brenda playing Vera is she’s very uncompromised as a character in her femaleness.
"So, she is what she is. She’s not dressed up. She’s not feminised in any way. She’s not glamorous in any way. She’s basically who she is when she does her job and I think we as the audience really take to that because we know it’s no-nonsense."
Sally also talked about whether she would actually like to star opposite Brenda, in Vera, commenting: "“ I don’t see why not. It might be a bit confusing with Madame Blanc. I love Brenda, she’s great, I’ve seen her over the years, she’s always been lovely to me
