A Venezuelan migrant, Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Colorado while living in the basement of his employer's home. Castillo had entered the U.S. illegally in September 2023 and was released by Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas before being taken into custody in Denver.
The incident took place on August 29, 2024, at a residence in south Jefferson County. Castillo, who was temporarily staying in the homeowner's basement, allegedly assaulted the teenager around 10:30 p.m. before leaving the scene.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office conducted an extensive investigation and arrested Castillo without incident after weeks of work. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
It was revealed that Castillo had a prior arrest in May of the same year for charges related to forgery/counterfeiting tools and larceny. Following the sexual assault accusation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on Castillo.
This case highlights the complexities and challenges surrounding illegal immigration and the need for thorough investigations and legal actions to address such serious crimes.
