Vegan Sandwich Co has shut the doors on their Rathmines branch just three months after launching the shop.
The restaurant, which offers customers a wide range of vegan lunch options, confirmed on their Instagram page that they were saying goodbye to their Rathmines eatery. The owners acknowledged that the last couple of months of trading had been “tough” but thanked customers for their support of the venture.
“We were so excited to set up roots in Dublin 6 but it just wasn’t the right time or place. It’s a hard time to do business at the moment, but we appreciate all of you who have shown us any support over the last three years,” Vegan Sandwich Co wrote on Instagram.

Customers can still avail of the restaurant’s vegan lunch options as their two other branches in Smithfield and Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre remain open. The Vegan Sandwich Co will cease trading on August 28.
People voiced their disappointment in the comments section, with some praising the business for promoting vegan cuisine in the wider community. One user suggested they find a more obvious venue for their next restaurant.
“Hopefully you can come back to another location as that spot in the Swan is so hidden. I bet so many people don’t even know you are there,” the user pointed out. The restaurant is located in the upstairs section of the Swan Shopping Centre alongside other businesses such as Insomnia.
The news is disappointing for the company, whose efforts to provide plant based alternatives have been acknowledged in recent years. The company most recently won the Irish category of the UberEats Restaurant of the Year competition. Staff will have the opportunity to jet off to London, where their produce will be scrutinised by Bake Off judge Prue Leith in the competition’s final stage.
