Vauxhall Motors came back from a losing position in the second half, as goals from Jordan Deer and Lewis Buckley ensured that Mick McGraa’s side returned to Ellesmere Port with a 2-1 win against Lower Breck.
The hosts started strongly at Anfield, as there was an early coming together in the Motors box which resulted in strong shouts for a penalty for the men in red. However, all claims were dismissed.
Breck continued to attack McGraa’s side and their efforts would soon result in a goal, it was Jonathon Swatton who opened the scoring with a curling effort. Motors, in truth, were struggling to get a foothold of the game.
The visitors would soon start to get a couple of chances to level the scoreline. Smart linkup play between Michael Burkey and Ben Holmes resulted in a chance for the captain but the ball wouldn’t sit up for him, a corner for McGraa’s side was awarded.
Their continued ambition for a goal nearly paid off when Holmes found Joseph Heath, his header skimming off the top of the bar. It was a strong end to the half for Vauxhall but their frustrations brought a yellow card for James towards the end of a fiery first 45.
There were few chances created at the start of the second half, with Jordan Deer replacing Sean Moscrop in the visitors first substitution just before the hour mark. This inspired Motors as Deer would soon go on to level the scoreline with his first opportunity of the evening as his effort bounced under the diving host’s keeper.
The second change of the half would come when Francois Antoine replaced Burkey and it didn’t take too long for McGraa’s side to put themselves in the lead with a fantastic finish from Lewis Buckley, as the recently signed forward produced a terrific turn before unleashing his shot.
A frustrating half for Lower Breck would soon be brought to an end with the referee’s whistle signifying a second win of the season for the Ellesmere Port side.
The Motors had plenty to be happy about on their return to the Wirral and will next be in action against Whitchurch Alport in the FA Cup on Saturday 6th August.
