Vaughan Gething's warning as Covid cases in hospitals rise

Welsh Government minister Vaughan Gething has warned the NHS cannot do all that is being asked of it due to the number of Covid patients in hospitals. He said there are now more than 1,000 patients due to Covid-related illness which is having a knock-on to services.

He told the weekly Welsh Government press conference, the last before the autumn due to the summer recess for the Senedd, that "Coronavirus continues to place huge pressures on our public services, especially the NHS and care. We are once again seeing a surge of infections in the community, which is, in turn, increasing pandemic pressures on hospitals. There are more than 1,000 Covid-19 related patients in hospital at the moment, which will have a knock-on effect on the NHS’ ability to carry on doing everything we want it to do.

"You can help the NHS by choosing the right service for your care and following all the simple steps, which help to keep you and Wales safe."

We have already seen mask requirements reintroduced by all Welsh health boards and visiting hours changed. You can read about the mask changes here, and the latest on visiting here.
