Vasilis Barkas Celtic transfer exit route emerges as mystery suitors 'revealed'

An approach from IFK Goteborg for Vasilis Barkas is reportedly being weighed up by Celtic.

The Greek stopper has struggled to make the bench under Ange Postecoglou with Joe Hart and Scott Bain both preferred to the £5million man.

After a string of blunders the manager appears to have decided Barkas is surplus to requirements but he has struggled to find a new club.

A move to Sheffield United has reportedly fallen through after a financial agreement could not be reached with the Blades.

Greek outlet Sport Time claim the Swedish side have ramped up their bid to land the goalkeeper.

The Allsvenskan side reportedly want to bring him to Gothenborg as their new number one but are concerned about the fees involved in the deal.

Goteborg chiefs have reportedly approached Celtic over the "financial status" of any deal.

The Swedish transfer window does not close until March and means Barkas could leave after the end of the month.

Boss Postecoglou has admitted that more fringe players could leave the club.

He said ahead of the clash with Dundee United : "Possibly. We are still working on getting loan opportunities for some of our boys.

"I expect there will be some sort of activity between now and the end of the window.

"It could even go beyond the window, there are certain markets around the world that don't close at that time."
