VAR frustrates Motherwell boss again after thrown-in incident leads to Celtic winner

Motherwell boss Steven Hammell has hit out at VAR again after an incident in the build-up to Celtic's match-winning goal last night.

With the Hoops leading 1-0, the Steelmen were on the attack when Matt Penney tried to take a thrown in and Sead Haksabanovic, who was standing off the pitch, got in the way of it.

The ball then deflected into the path of David Turnbull and his long-ball played in Daizen Maeda to fire the ball past Liam Kelly.

Motherwell pulled a goal back through Ross Tierney moments later but it proved to be just a consolation and the build-up to Maeda's goal left Hammell angered.

It's not the first time Motherwell have been left frustrated by VAR missing an incident that has cost his side dear, with VAR failing to pick up a clear foul on Ricki Lamie in the penalty area in the dying seconds of their 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen last month.

On the throw-in incident, Hammell said: "It was right in front of us.

"Matt has taken it quickly, the Celtic player has stopped it. But he stopped it from off the pitch.

"That was the frustration of ours, so essentially the Celtic player has headed the ball onto the pitch.

"It's not an excuse or whatever, we were wanting them to look at it - I don't even know if they did - but it was just dismissed quickly.

"Ultimately, it was a chance for us to go on the attack but a Celtic player stopped us at source, then they went up the park and scored.

"We would have liked them to have a look at it."
