Calls for major VAR reform are taking shape as Newcastle United once again suffered at the hands of technology in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The Magpies were denied victory after referee Michael Salisbury ruled out the opening goal after being instructed to take a look at the pitchside monitor.
The Premier League has asked referees' body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to review the VAR decisions at St James' Park and Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Both Newcastle United and West Ham saw goals disallowed after VAR intervention, causing uproar over the weekend.
The PGMOL, the body responsible for English referees, also accepts it made the wrong call by disallowing both goals. The body will "take lessons" from the two incidents to ensure there is less chance of them happening in the future.

However, this will give Newcastle little comfort after a plethora of decisions have already gone against the north east outfit in the opening six games of the season. Newcastle supporters feel they were also denied penalties Manchester City and Wolves, while Callum Wilson had a contentious goal chalked off at Brighton.
Wednesday's last-gasp defeat at Liverpool came two minutes after the allotted five minutes of stoppage time. And Saturday's draw came down to another dodgy decision, this time by on-field referee Salisbury and VAR official Lee Mason.
Speaking after Saturday's draw, Eddie Howe refused to say luck was against his side on the whole but disagreed with the decision to rule out Tyrick Mitchell's own goal. The Newcastle manager said: "I disagree with the decision. I thought it should be a goal. I thought Joe was pushed. He is running in and is pushed into the keeper. I am not sure what Joe is supposed to do there. For me it is a perfectly good goal."
Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley was asked about the decision as she watched the club's women's team play on Sunday. Staveley admitted she 'hated' the decision and hinted the club would be taking some form of action.
She told Tyneside Life: "I had a sleepless night. We should have won, I hated the VAR decision. Obviously that's something we're dealing with, it seems to be a consistent theme of the last few games. But we are dealing with that, talking to officials and we're trying to get something that we think will work going forward."
