A popular shop in Newcastle city centre has closed its doors to customers.
Vans on Blackett Street has been boarded up and signs in the window of the store have announced that it has permanently closed. The American brand, which sells skateboarding shoes and clothing has not given any indication of whether it will open another outlet in the city.
It means that shoppers will now have to travel to the nearest Vans stores in Edinburgh and Leeds or go online to return items bought at the Newcastle branch. The Newcastle store first opened in 2018.
A message to customers on the shop door reads: "Sadly this Vans store closed on December 23, 2022. For any queries please refer to the following Vans stores; Vans retail Edinburgh, Vans retail Leeds, Vans Livingston Outlet, Vans Outlet York."
Meanwhile, fellow American brand The North Face, which sits next door to Vans on Blackett Street, has also closed. However, the retailer which sells outdoor clothing, shoes and equipment, has indicated that it is only shut down temporarily.
Signage on posters in the windows of the store suggest at it is undergoing a revamp, featuring the message, "The North Face Newcastle opening soon."
And planning documents submitted to Newcastle City Council by the brand in January also show that the store is looking to erect an illuminated sign outside.
