Vanessa Feltz told viewers she hoped they had a "better weekend than I did" as she made her first appearance since announcing her split from partner Ben Ofoedu - hours after he broke his silence.
On Monday night (February 6), the 60-year-old was back fronting her TalkTV show, a day after explaining the reason behind her three-week social media silence. Speaking out on her Instagram on Sunday (February 5) Vanessa told her followers that she was "shocked" and "incredibly sad" as she addressed her and Ben's split after 16 years together.
In a frank video message, the This Morning regular said the trust had been broken in their relationship. Speaking into the camera she said: "Well, I haven’t been on Instagram for three weeks and that’s because my relationship with Ben is over after 16 years and I honestly didn’t know what to say to you on Instagram."
She continued: "But now it’s clear that it’s over, and I really do feel that once the trust in a relationship is gone you really can’t get it back, and that’s what I’d tell anyone else to do."
Since then, appearing on her TalkTV show, she welcomed everyone tuning into the show before referencing the news that broke this weekend. "I hope you're happy and jolly. I hope your weekend was better than mine," she said.
She also told her viewers: "I can’t be the only person in the country nursing a broken heart, can I? I am absolutely determined to put my best foot forward, to keep on trucking, all that sort of stuff 'Keep calm and carry on'. Having said all of this, obviously inside I’m feeling all sorts of things, no questions about it.
"Very hurt, very sad, terribly disappointed, worried about the future, all the normal stuff – of course I am." During the programme, she was joined by presenter Sue Atkins, who spoke about her own experience of heartbreak and Sue advised Vanessa to make sure she has close pals around her for support.
Vanessa replied: "I've had enough of that. I don't even really have the urge to. I don't even really want to discuss that person at all." The radio and TV star also explained how her mum dying at 57 has made her grateful to be alive and made her determined to live life to the fullest, despite the difficult moments.
"So, I was absolutely determined to wring every ounce of happiness and fun and adventure and excitement from every day. And I really mean it, I’m not just saying it because it’s sloshy and slushy – I really mean it," she said. "So, when people say 'eurgh, you’re 60, you’re old, how do you feel?' The answer is grateful. I feel incredibly grateful, I’m so pleased to be alive. And I’m so determined to enjoy everything I’m given to have.
Vanessa went on: "But obviously when you get a horrible shock and your heart snaps into a million pieces and you’re just thinking 'oh my God,' all that thing about enjoying every minute, it’s a gift, it’s a wonderful thing, just kind of evaporates. It’s very difficult."
Her TV appearance came after Ben, who shot to fame as one half of the dance duo Phats &Small in 1998 with the massive hit Turn Around, shared a picture of a broken heart emoji on Instagram Stories. It came days after he posted a video of himself singing and smiling on Instagram, before news of his break-up was revealed at the weekend.
In the clip, Ben could be seen sitting on a train in a blue cap, neutral hooded jacket and black t-shirt. The 50-year-old was singing along to Fleetwood Mac's hit Dreams while smiling and nodding to the beat of the music. The singer captioned the video: "On the train vibez again. God bless if you're reading this."
